Café Baracoa: Authentic Cuban Coffee
Overview:
Café Baracoa is a passion project that blends my personal love for coffee with an exploration of Cuba's rich coffee heritage. Before the Cuban Revolution in 1959, coffee production contributed even more to the country's economy than sugar. At its peak, Cuba exported over 20,000 metric tons of coffee annually, valued at $21.5 million at the time—or approximately $248.5 million adjusted for inflation today—making it one of the world's largest producers.
The Baracoa region, with its high-altitude mountains, ample annual rainfall, fertile soil, and proximity to the Toa River—one of the island's mightiest—provided ideal conditions for growing coffee beans. This brand draws from that history, with the name "Baracoa" paying tribute to this significant region and its contribution to the country’s lost legacy, revitalized through a modern lens.
Brand Identity Creation: Crafting the Café Baracoa logo, which includes a symbolic representation of the Toa River within a coffee bean, reflecting the origins of the coffee and its connection to the land.
Packaging Design: Designing minimalist yet contemporary packaging with a metallic finish, blending modern aesthetics to position Café Baracoa as a premium brand. Each coffee variant, from Robusta to Arabica, carries a distinctive color to reflect its unique flavor profile.
The design for Baracoa Coffee, rooted in tradition yet crafted for a modern audience, should stand out in the premium coffee market. This project allowed me to turn my personal passion into a fully realized brand that I'm happy with, which blends history, culture, and contemporary design into one cohesive brand identity.
